Hey PCS folks! It's been a while since I've posted, and I wanted to get back to contributing. I thought, what better project to share with this crowd then a set of beer cards I'm working on. It's absolutely for personal enjoyment, something to do in between projects, that I hope to finish up soon.
Beer is something that I've tried to educate myself about over the past few years – learning about the many styles, processes and traditions – and we're in a great place for it. Philadelphia has an outstanding beer culture that includes top notch breweries, amazing bars and wonderfully knowledgable people within both. Over the years, I've read a lot about the subject and tried to relate what I'm reading to what I'm tasting. And after all, isn't that the fun part? With all that in mind, I wanted to represent something of the history behind these different styles. The finishes may wind up being printed as labels and photographed as a group, but for now I hope you guys dig the sketches.
Last week was a light week for me as I waited on approvals and scripts to come in, so I decided to work on a little something that's been sitting in my sketchbook for a while now...

My first love was newspaper comic strips (can you guess which one I favored?). My second love was super-hero comics, especially Marvel's "Fantastic Four" (which led John Byrne to create what analogous super team?).
I've mashed up my favorites to get this team snapshot. Not totally thrilled with the composition, but inspiration struck and took root, so I rushed to get things done, working in spurts around other priorities. Still, it was a challenge, finding a balance between two very different art styles (one of extreme minimalism, the other of extreme detail), hence the flat colors and dearth of modeling.
Most important, I had FUN, so I thought I'd share.

And in other news, I just got my "damaged" prints back from UPS after they denied my insurance claim, so basically I now have a batch of slightly bent prints that I am offering up for sale at a discounted price to try and recoup my costs on the print run. Here is a photo so you can see the damage.
It's only on the bottom left corner and the prints are slightly bent, if you were going to frame the piece chances are you won't see much of the bend. The size of the print is 16"x24" and is a 3-color screenprint on cougar natural 100# cover stock.
So I am offering these "bent" ones at $25 each plus $8 for shipping in the US or $15 international. The prints will be sent USPS rolled in a tube, i'm not going to bother with insurance on these since they are already bent.
Also, if anyone doesn't want a bent version I have about 6 "mint" copies of the print run that I held on too and never sent to the gallery, those ones are $50 each and $15 for shipping in the US rolled in a tube sent USPS priority mail with insurance.
If anybody would like one they can email me at: email@example.com
