THE ART OF SEQUENTIAL 2011

Hey guys - hope I'm doing this right! (reposted from www.jamarnicholas.com)

THE ART OF SEQUENTIAL 2011

HEY ALL!

If you live in the Philadelphia area and get down with the cartooning/comicking, I am the juror (in good standing!) for the Philadelphia Sketch Club's ART OF SEQUENTIAL gallery exhibition. Mike Manley and I were involved with the inaugural show a few summers ago and it was a great time. You should submit!

And if you don't know what the Sketch Club is, For Shame! It is only the oldest continuing artist's organization, which housed some of the greats behind its doors, like Thomas Eakins, N.C. Wyeth, Benton Spruance and on. This is no rinky-dink hole in the wall, and I'm honored to be a welcomed member.

Dead Legs - Hobo Zombie project by Jeff Kilpatrick

With the PCS Hobo Day fast approaching, I wanted to post some recent hobo-esque work. I did a write-up of an ongoing Hobo Zombie project I have been working on. The working title is "Dead Legs". I am not sure if I am going to keep that name or not, but you can read more about the project by visiting my Blog. Please click here.

A retirement gift

Ms. Pat, after 36 years with the Transportation Department in the Fayette County school district, is retiring. She was responsible for starting the training program many years ago and is largely responsible for my having a job and being able to provide medical benefits for my family. So, as a retirement gift, I drew her this picture, featuring some of her favorite things; it was well-received.

"She-Devil" Silkscreen

This is the first in my 2-color "Women on the Warpath" series, Roseanne Arnold as "She-Devil" (a great movie if you get the chance). This is a terrible scan; original is on lovely speckled french paper.

Potrait Commissions

Here's a couple of portrait commissions i just recently finished. This one they had me incorporate a few of their favorite things...

This is one I did for Mark Whitfield, a UK based photographer.

After I finished his piece, he set up a shot to recreate the pose...

Animated Google Doodle - The Good Link

Sorry folks. Seems I used a link that goes nowhere. Click the following for Ryan's animated Google logo.

Animated Google Doodle

I try not to make a habit of sending links to corporate behemoths. But this animated logo by Ryan Woodward (of Osmosis Jones fame) for Google's homepage is too cool not to share. Hand-drawn animation can still delight in ways CG still can't match. Enjoy.

New Monster Monday.

Hey gang, just posted a new Monster Monday. The response to these has been great! Thanks to everyone that has been checking 'em out. This week I talk a bit about an awesome opportunity I had a while back. You can read about it here if you like. Thanks again!

3B Show Tonight at Gallery 1988 Venice!

Gallery 1988 and the Autumn Society of Philadelphia are proud to present the " 3B Show: Beetlejuice, Back to the Future, and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure/Bogus Journey" tonight at Gallery 1988 Venice, located at 214 Pier Avenue in beautiful Santa Monica, CA. This 12" x 24" 3-color screen print as part of a tryptic with fellow PCS artists "Strongstuff" (Tom Whalen) and "Montygog" (Dave Perillo) who based their posters on Beetlejuice and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, respectively. We, as the "STD Collective", decided to create poster advertisements reflecting on specific aspects of each film. I choose one of the most important plot points to the first Back to the Future film, the "Enchantment under the Sea" dance. If you're in LA tonight, stop by the gallery to pick up a copy, if you are so inclined. If any prints are left after the show, they will be available on line at Gallery 1988's website: Gallery1988.com within the next day or two. Thanks for lookin'!
Best,
-nd

Ellington Way #1

Ew2011-05-05

I'm going to being ramping production on new comics ideas soon and figured I'd revisit some of my older strips in the process. Ellington Way was a semi-syndicated strip I drew between 2005 and 2007. It centers around the owner of an art gallery, her friends, foes and drinking habits.

These are the first new Ellington strips I've drawn in quite some time. Enjoy!

P.C.S. Hobo Day - June 4, 2011

Hobo Day illustration by Jeffro Kilpatrick
Save the Date - Saturday, June 4, 2011.

Bring a sketchbook. A group of Philadelphia Cartoonist Society members will be meeting up and getting on the Market-Frankford El (click here for map) that Saturday afternoon. Then we are going to ride the rails back and forth between Bridge/Pratt el stop and the 69th Street el stop, all the while sketching shakily in our books.

At the end of the afternoon, Locust Moon Comics (4040 Spruce Street) will be hosting a BBQ for the group. If you've got a sketchbook and limited wanderlust, and you are interested in joining us for the ride, please e-mail: phillytoon@yahoo.com to RSVP and receive further information.

Now here is some music about the Frankford El from Philly local rockin dudes "The American Dream"

And here is Woody Guthrie's "Hobo's Lullaby"

Back on the Ball!

Hey Y'all

I haven't posted in a while, only because I have been strenuously working on a large scale illustration on my free time. I've finally finished the tonal/value underpainting and I'm gonna flaunt what I got so far. HAH!
Oh yeah, sorry for the graininess. This is actually acrylic on Rives BFK. What sucks is that the only place I could find a GIANT scanner for a cheep price was at Fedex/Kinkos... and this is the result. Better than nothing I suppose.
