Beer Sketches

Hey PCS folks! It's been a while since I've posted, and I wanted to get back to contributing. I thought, what better project to share with this crowd then a set of beer cards I'm working on. It's absolutely for personal enjoyment, something to do in between projects, that I hope to finish up soon.

Beer is something that I've tried to educate myself about over the past few years – learning about the many styles, processes and traditions – and we're in a great place for it. Philadelphia has an outstanding beer culture that includes top notch breweries, amazing bars and wonderfully knowledgable people within both. Over the years, I've read a lot about the subject and tried to relate what I'm reading to what I'm tasting. And after all, isn't that the fun part? With all that in mind, I wanted to represent something of the history behind these different styles. The finishes may wind up being printed as labels and photographed as a group, but for now I hope you guys dig the sketches.

I've posted this news a few other places, but Patch rightly pointed out that I should share it with my fellow PCS folks. A great fantasy/digital art magazine called ImagineFX did a nice little feature on my work this month. The magazine has some great contributors like Joao Ruas, John Howe and Justin Sweet so it was a real pleasure to have them print some of my pieces. Enjoy!

Lineage, a webcomic

Hi PCS pals. Firstly, thanks so much for the invite to contribute to the blog. I've been reading it for a while and I've loved seeing all of your new work, sketches and jam pieces. I'm excited that my first post is about something so close to my heart. I've been quietly working on a comic with writer/bud Michael Taggart, only sharing it with a few close pals to get their opinions/thoughts. Mike and I have collaborated on lots of projects in the past and this is by far our most ambitious. The story revolves around a small cast of characters set in a new sci-fi universe, but reading the comic and checking out the website can describe it better than I can here.

I wanted to keep it under wraps until we had a good amount of backlogged pages, promising I would start making it public in the new year. With the coming of 2011 and 15 pages, we decided now was the time to start going public with our work. The project has allowed me to experiment with new ways of working and there is a lot to look forward to as it evolves. The comic is drawn to fit the screen, and working horizontally has been a new experience itself.. Just received my copies for FCBD from Ape Entertainment's Shrek/Penguins of Madagascar book. Gotta say, I'm pretty psyched.
