Thought I'd drop by to post some random new art type stuff. Took a little time to do something for me. A fun little something that came out of a practice session...
See 'em big at the DA account
I'm really happy and surprised with how the blog has taken off. Thanks to everyone for your continuous posts, and amazing artwork. I am humbled by the awesomeness here.

Drawing for Tony Bennett by Jeffro
I'm going to the Mann tonight with Joannie to see Tony Bennett live. I'm really looking forward to the show. I recently watched a documentary on him on PBS, and he seems like he still is great in concert. The more I find out about him, the more I like him. I've always been a fan of his music, but I only recently found out he was a really good painter and also was a civil rights advocate in the 1960's.
I know the chances are slim, but I am taking a drawing tonight I made for him. I'm going to try to hand it off to a stagehand or someone at the Mann to hopefully relay it to him. The drawing is of two people who are heroes to Tony and myself. Louis Armstrong and Charlie Chaplin are artists who had really hard upbringings, but tried very hard throughout their lives to make people happy. Chaplin wrote the song, "Smile," which is my favorite song of all time. Tony Bennett sings my favorite version of the song. Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong is also a profound influence on my work. I've seen Tony Bennett talk about Satchmo in documentaries about how much respect he has for him.
Even if I don't get the art in Tony's hands, I'm still happy I took the time to make this piece. If I had a Mount Rushmore of artists, Chaplin and Satchmo would both be on it.

HALLOWED HALLOWEEN!
As mentioned in a prior post, the official announcement for 'Hallowed Halloween' is coming soon, but in the mean-time, a detail from one of three pieces. Three in the event that the big one doesn't get finished... this being from the least impressive of the three. Just a little more info on the show: THIS IS THE FIRST ASOP/ Philadelphia Cartoonist Society COLLABORATIVE SHOW! More soon, I promise!

24 Hour Comic Day at Atomic City Comics
I just wanted to take a minute and tip my hat to Pete, Colleen, Raph, Andrea, , Steve, and Brett for doing "24-Hour Comic Day" this year and to Atomic City Comics on South Street for hosting the event. Basically, the artists stay up for 24 hours straight and make a 24 page comic. No work is allowed to be done on the book beforehand. It all has to take place within that 24 hour period. It's a crazy amount of work, but a lot of fun. I stopped in to say hi after work at 3 AM, and I really wished I could have taken part this year. I haven't done a 24-hour comic since 2002.

Part of This Complete Breakfast
Here are 3 pieces of did for the upcoming 3G Show at Gallery 1988 in LA. The theme was to do 3 separate pieces for Goonies, Ghostbusters & Gremlins in and style. I choose to go with fun faux cereal boxes. The one thing i learned from all of this? That oatmeal is not photogenic but rather down right gross looking. Smells good though...
The show opens on Friday, September 3rd at 7pm. There are a ton of other AMAZING pieces done by fellow PCS and Autumn Society members. So head out to the Golden Coast and show the love!

Heading Midwest
Tomorrow we'll be leaving for our Official Popularity Papers Goes West booktour. We'll be hitting bookstores in Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Omaha, Minneapolis, Chicago, and Pittsburgh, as well as visiting friends in Des Moines, Denver, The Middle of Nowhere Wisconsin, and Cleveland--it's going to be a busy two and a half weeks.
I'll be keeping a blog about the trip called The Yellow Car Chronicles, so if you know anyone in any of those cities please show them the blog and let them know I'm in town. Also on the blog are pictures of me getting lovingly mauled by the Phillie Phanatic while giving blood, so there's something for everyone.
A cartoonist friend of mine, Ryan Wilson of Moo Cow Fan Club, once wished me at least one kid at every book signing. It's really hard as a debut author to bring people in--I've done a lot of events since the book came out with some great turnouts and some less encouraging ones (once I had to be content with two kids and six teenagers who had volunteered to work the event for school credits). Here's hoping!

PACC REPORT!
This past Sunday I went to the Philly Alt. Comic Con. It was so super-duper fun and it's only 4 blocks from my house! If you're not at it next year, you're in serious trouble.
Also, I saw Charles Burns walking around in the crowd, but I didn't take a photo of him cause I was playing it cool.
This is my table, before the chaos.
Liz Baillie and Sally Bloodbath are the Kate Beaton of the PACC.
Liz gave out Hobo Names! This one is mine.
Oh man, this dude's T-shirt was fantastic.
Mike Sgier and the rest of the crew gettin' ready for the crowds.
I love that dude's hat.
L. Nichols and Liz getting PUMPED!
Kelly Phillips and Claire Folkman and the glowing orb.
Steve Teare and Jason Clarke GET CRAZY (seriously they got more crazy right after this photo was taken.)
Also, I saw Charles Burns walking around in the crowd, but I didn't take a photo of him cause I was playing it cool.

Almost Never Shirt Design
They say "An Elephant never forgets", well that might not hold true for this guy when he starts to second guess himself. Did he leave that iron on right before he\'s about to board the plane for a fun filled week on the beaches of Fiji? Will he return and find his home is a smoldering pile of ash? Did he pack enough underwear?
Help me get my design printed by going to Threadless and scoring it. If my design is printed, Threadless will pay me $2,500 in cash and prizes! Do you know how many pop tarts i could buy with that kinda dough!

UARTS Summer Pre-College Illustration Classes
This summer, I have been teaching at University of the Arts' Pre- College Summer Institute. I was asked to teach two Illustration classes. In my opinion, it's been one of the best courses I've taught. The students created custom logos, spot illustrations, and gig posters using traditional and digital illustration techniques. I am really impressed with the students in this program. Not only are they electing for more school in the summer, but they come to work.
Working with these students has made my summer. Their ambition and work ethic is inspiring. I find myself energized when I come home to sit right down at the desk and draw or take my sketchbook out to a park. These classes have been a great reminder of why I love to teach and why I love to make art.
