Hobo Day Photos - 2011

I hope that some of the folks' drawings will pop up here soon. In the meantimes, we will have to enjoy the memories of these Iphone photos Sam Heimer took. Thanks to all the folks who came out. Mostly it was awesome mixing it up, drawing, and BBQing with a bunch of great people. Thanx, Chris Stevens and John and all the gracious folks at Locust Moon out in Wild West Philly. Unfortunately, we witnessed two very sad moments on the el train, but it didn't seem to sour the overall spirit of the day and the crew. It was a very unique and lively experience to say the least. We were kinda like a peaceful version of "The Warriors" (except nobody was wasting nobody).

My main man Chris - in spite of the fact that his headphones had devil horns on them, I am pretty sure I heard Barry Manilow coming from his Ipod. You can see some of Chris' work here: http://chrisdowling.deviantart.com/.

Three Cheers...

...and a big 'thank-you' to Jeffro Kilpatrick for setting up PCS Hobo Day. I'll leave the telling of the day to somebody else, but an incredible day it was. Riding the rails and doodling was a blast, as was getting to catch up with old PCS members and meeting new members. The food as always, was top notch culinary hoboery. I'm still licking Jeff's barbecue sauce out of my mustache. As an added bonus we received free instruction on parenting and a demonstration on how Septa needs better protocol when dealing with mental health issues. This was a memorable day, and again, thanks to Jeff and the crew at Locust Moon for making all this possible!

Excited About Hobo Day this Saturday!

I am really excited about PCS Hobo Day this Saturday, June 4th. A bunch of us will meeting at the Spring Garden El stop at 2pm. For more info go here. I love seeing Jeff's drawings from his favorite Hobo movie and comic project. It got me thinking...Be sure to bring some work with you on Saturday. Don't bog yourself down with a bunch of stuff. But it would be great to look over folks art at Locust Moon later in the day. Be sure to send Jeffro an e-mail if you plan on attending so we can get a head count. See you all on Saturday!

Above: Not many people know this but our own Melissa Lomax's great, great grandmother was famous hobo actress "Box Car" Birdie. Birdie starred in such films as "The Happiest Hobo" and "Box Car goes to the Circus".

In honor of Saturday's Upcoming Hobo Day...

I wanted to post drawings from the greatest hobo movie of all time - "The Emperor of the North Pole". Ernest Borgnine plays the tyrannical train conductor whose name is feared far and wide along the rails - the deplorable, the despicable, the hobo killing "SHACK":And Lee Marvin plays the tough-as-nails hobo "A NUMBER ONE":

Can't wait til Saturday to Hobro down! Click Here for information on Saturday's Event.

Quizzo with Rob!

Good friend and proud supporter of the Philadelphia Cartoonist Society, Rob LeFevre, of Brave New Worlds Comic Shop in Olde City is now the new king of Quizzo! Rob is now hosting the weekly pub quiz at National Mechanics every Wednesday from 8pm until 10pm.
He stated that "I'll have plenty of questions that have a nerdy bent and there's even a music round for those who are audiologically (I made this word up) inclined."
That sounds like a challenge?
If you are in the area be sure to drop in and test your brain sauce. Also, I think there is a dire need for a PCS Quizzo Team! If you are interested please post here and we can make plans to kick butt next week!

Its been a while since I have last posted. Been under forced blackout in the cave, cooking up new crap. So, for you're approval, a few new illustrations done for the CityPaper.

See what else is bubbling in the sauce here.
