In order to motivate me to do more of my own comics, I have started a web comic called Short Stories which will include the stories from my book in addition to new material that I haven't gotten around to finishing. The entirety of Cup-O-Noodles is up there now. Once I have caught up with the short stories I have on file (posting 1 per week), I will be posting complete stories once/month for the foreseeable future. This is a good way to motivate me to keep writing and finishing my own work in addition to the comics I am illustrating by other folks.

It would mean so much if you would go and subscribe! And even more if you could tweet it and facepage it and spread the word (@larsenproject)! Free comics! The next story will be up by Friday.

One day I hope to have enough to collect them all into one gigantic book...

This is my submission for the upcoming "Mint Condition: A Comic Book Inspired Art Show" which begins this Friday, March 30th at the LTD Art Gallery at 307 E. Pike Street, Seattle Washington. This show is sponsored by, and being held in conjunction with the Emerald City Comic-con which is also going on this weekend from 3/30-4/1. If you happen to be in Seattle this weekend, and looking for some extra nerdy things to do, look no further!

My piece is entitled "Hard Day's Work", and is a 16" x 20" Giclée print on archival paper, and is limited to an edition of 30. Famine's Shadow

This winter I was contacted by horror writer Rachel Deering (Anathema) to do work on a graphic novel. That is still in the works, but in the meantime, I did a short story for a future anthology called Monstrology. Rachel wrote a great 12 page script for me, and being the fan of short stories that I am, I gladly tried my hand at it...

THE ART OF SEQUENTIAL 2011

HEY ALL!

If you live in the Philadelphia area and get down with the cartooning/comicking, I am the juror (in good standing!) for the Philadelphia Sketch Club's ART OF SEQUENTIAL gallery exhibition. Mike Manley and I were involved with the inaugural show a few summers ago and it was a great time. You should submit!

And if you don't know what the Sketch Club is, For Shame! It is only the oldest continuing artist's organization, which housed some of the greats behind its doors, like Thomas Eakins, N.C. Wyeth, Benton Spruance and on. This is no rinky-dink hole in the wall, and I'm honored to be a welcomed member.

The Philadelphia Sketch Club has extended the deadline for entries into the Art of Sequential Exhibition. You can submit work on line at www.sketchclub.slideroom.com  3 entries for $30.

The deadline for submission is Friday, June 3rd at midnite!
Categories are: Sequential Comic Page, Sequential  one- page story or comic strip, Cover Art, and Character Pin Up Art.

Artists reception and awards will be on Sunday June 12 from 2 to 4 PM , with the awards presented at 3 PM.

You can hand deliver work to The Philadelphia Sketch Club on Saturday June 4th between 1 and 4 PM. Single walk in entries will still be accepted on Saturday for $15 each.

The Philadelphia Sketch Club is located at 235 S. Camac Street  in Philadelphia. The work will hang in the Sketch Club upstairs gallery  through June 12th .

Locust Moon Comics April Drink & Draw

Stopped at Locust Moon Comics (404 Locust Street) for a little bit last night. They were having their April “Drink n’ Draw” event that stretched way into the late night, so I tipped in briefly after work. A great group of folks there who love to draw and talk comics. There was some home brew in blue bottles and a lot of sketchbooks being passed around.

Chris Stevens knows his stuff and has a genuine love for the artform. He talks up artists from Charles Burns to Winsor McCay. Original art from Art Adams, Farel Dalrymple, and many other comics artists fill the walls. Locust Moon also has one of the best indy sections I’ve ever seen in any comics shop. Today, Eisner Award-winning comics letterer Todd Klein will be appearing at Locust Moon for a signing. Stop in and say hello. Looking forward to the Philadelphia Cartoonist Society’s “Septa Hobo” event in the spring where we will meet at Locust Moon at the end of the day for a BBQ. Stay tuned for more info…

Thanks to everyone that participated. A very special thanks to the gang at Brave New Worlds and the nice words they posted here.
The turnout for this was overwhelming. I think we hung more than a hundred pieces? My apologies but we ran out of space. It's a wonderful show and we will be updating it regularly. So be sure to check it out.

On Sunday, August 8th, 2010 the Second Annual Philly Alternative Comic Con will be held at the Rotunda (4014 Walnut Street, Philly) from 12pm to 6pm. I know a few of our members will be participating as well as some of our buddies from Meathaus. Be sure and check it out!

As many of you know I host Artist Trading Card sessions at the University of the Arts. Artist trading cards are a spin off of the popular gaming cards, like Magic. The only difference is each card is a little work of art that is traded with fellow artists. I have been holding sessions (Thank you Mr. Bob Dix) now for almost a decade now and every session holds new creative surprises.

PCS Art Crawl Update

Hey Everyone!

Just wanted to let you all know an update on the PCS Art Crawl happening this Friday. On May 7th the Philadelphia Cartoonist Society will be hosting three different art openings, that's right I said THREE ART EVENTS!

1. The “Domo Arrigato” robot art show is hanging at Brave New Worlds Comic Shop in Olde City.
2. “Deck Heads” is a skate board art show hosted annually by Exit Skate Shop in Northern Liberties.
3. “Dirt Balls in Love” is the solo show of the one and only Jeffro Kilpatrick on exhibit at Proximity Gallery in Fishtown.

This is sure to be a good time with some really great art, so come on out for laughs and refreshments along the way.
In our efforts to find new ways to promote our shows I have attached the flyer for the PCS Art Crawl as well as some photos of a Robot Sticker Campaign some of us took part in. Also, this past Saturday was Free Comic Book Day. Many of us were on hand at Brave New Worlds drawing robots for folks out to pick up some free comics. It was a lot of fun and we made some new friends including Zombie Hulk!

I have attached these pics for all those with a finger in the Blog-o-sphere to start posting in support of the shows.
