PAWS BENEFIT SHOW!

hey kids-

i know it's been quite some time since i've posted here, but this is the first thing i've done in a while that fits the theme of the group and it's for something i feel is a great cause. industry8 / digital ferret are putting out a comp that will directly benefit the philadelphia animal welfare society (paws) and i was fortunate enough to be asked to do the layout. i came up with this simple but fun image for the cover that will also be available as a print. for more information please check out the facebook event page HERE for more details. if anyone is interested in helping to hand out fliers or to simply change their default photo to a simple jpeg that will have basic info, email me and i'll be happy to get you the proper materials!

Jeffro's Pitbull Hoverboards Shirt on Teefury - Oct. 12, 2011

On October 12, 2011, I will have another shirt up on Teefury’s “one day only” sale. For this go round, I designed a “Pitbull Hoverboards” T-shirt. This design references the movie “Back to the Future II”. In the future, the only hoverboards that ride over water are the ones with “power”. Griff Tannen has a Pitbull Hoverboard, complete with little jet engines to keep him propelled as he chases Marty McFly over a pond and through the streets of Hill Valley in the year 2015. It’s 2011 now, so it looks like we’ll actually have our own hoverboards in just four short years. I can’t wait. The cost of parking in Center City Philadelphia is killing me.

You can view a larger image of the shirt on Teefury’s website by CLICKING HERE on Wednesday, October 12.

Poets Page with Final Color

Color01poets_pg15

That subject line may turn me into a liar as I'm not completely happy with the colors on this page. It may change again before I go to print. Still, here it is. Page 15 from Poets issue numbah one!

That time of the month: NEW POST!

Hello again!

As always, it has been a while since I posted on PCS's blog. And the excuse is always that work gets in the way. Well, in other news, I successfully (i think) completed another piece. This one was extremely detailed-oriented and rewardingly time consuming. Hope y'all like it! It's not the best quality pic, I know. Just wanted to show you what's up. HAH!

And while I'm at it, just tagging myself here: www.adamazur.com

PCS longtime member Jacob Lambert has written an editorial in today's Philadelphia Inquirer about Steve Jobs. Over the years, Lambert has written and drawn for MAD Magazine, the local Weeklies, Maxxim Magazine, and Nickelodeon Magazine, just to name a few. Jacob also ran the online Onion-esque Philly Turkey for a few years.

It's always great to see him writing and drawing. To read the Steve Jobs editorial, CLICK HERE.

Dennis Jones - Art Show This Month at Starbucks

If you have ever been anywhere near the Starbucks at Broad & Pine on the University of the Arts campus, you have probably seen Dennis, the guy sitting in the front window painting, drawing, designing, and playing the key-tar. You may have wondered, "What is that guy's story?"

You should come out Friday, October 7 and find out. Dennis Jones of Silver Back Productions will have a collection of work hanging all month in the Starbucks he treats as his studio and office. You might think he's an unusual character until you get to know him. But the truth is that Dennis is just a straight-ahead working artist. Most of the work he does at that coffee shop is for hire. He is constantly painting portraits of the Phillies, drawing dogs, and designing logos. Dennis attended UArts back in the 70's when it was called the Philadelphia College of Art. He was a sign painter for years, a t-shirt designer, and even designed a jacket years ago for Janet Jackson.

I asked why he always does his work at the Starbucks. He didn't really have an answer for me. He just said he stopped in there one day, saw they had an outlet to plug in his phone charger and key-tar, and it evolved into what it is today. Dennis is at that Starbucks at Broad and Pine almost every day. His plate is always full of work.

Dennis' opening reception is around 5 PM on Friday, October 7, 2011, and his work will hang all month. Make sure you stop by, see some great work, and talk to the man.

If you would like to talk to Dennis about a commission or his music, his number is (267) 770-2334. You can also e-mail him at: soloDJX2@gmail.com

Hats Off to Signe Wilkinson - 2011 Moore Visionary Woman Awardee

The Philadelphia Cartoonist Society honored Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist Signe Wilkinson in our second year of existence, 1998. We gave her a gift and an award of appreciation for her years of awesome cartoons. Since then, she has always been gracious and generous in sharing her knowledge of the cartooning business with members of the group. We are excited that Signe is being honored at the 2011 Visionary Woman Awards. The awards gala will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 from 6 to 9 pm at Moore College of Art & Design. Hats off to Signe as we salute her! It’s great to see her get the recognition she deserves. Please CLICK HERE to read more about the Visionary Woman Awards.

Also, you have just a couple weeks to check out Signe Wilkinson: Keeping the World in Line, an exhibit on view in the Graham Gallery until October 15. The exhibition highlights the career of Wilkinson and includes a selection of editorial cartoons that she has produced for the Philadelphia Daily News. Grouped by ongoing themes found in the artist’s work, they include her perspectives on education, peace and/or war, women and more. The exhibition also includes a section devoted to works from Family Tree, a daily comic strip that appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer. Please CLICK HERE to read more about the exhibit on Moore’s website.

“For All My Friends” Star Wars-inspired Shirt up on TeeFury – Oct. 3rd – One Day Only

I did this drawing as a piece of fan art initially. You can read about the how and why by CLICKING HERE. After the Harry Potter/Dr. Who-inspired shirt I had on Teefury.com, I decided to try this out as a shirt design as well. I did some research. There are a lot of Cantina shirts available online, but they were more logo/sign ideas. Although it’s not the most original concept, I hope my drawing style puts enough of an individual spin to give it my voice. Aside from making this shirt just a parody of the Star Wars bar scene, I also wanted to goof on other bar-centric entertainment. So I decided to make a “Cheers” type logo. I also titled the shirt after a famous line of dialogue from Charles Bukowski’s “Barfly” script (another piece of hard-drinkin’ fun).

If you like, CLICK HERE to go to Teefury’s website. The shirt will be up for that marathon-type of sale for $10 from midnight to midnight only on October 3rd. Then it’s as gone as the shot of Jameson’s I had with my breakfast.
