Spot Illustrations

So here are a couple examples of spot illustrations, both based on editorial assignments asked for me to do from my internship sponsor, Emily Flake--who gets work from much media such as The New Yorker, Globe Magazine, and New York Times, etc.

"Hormones." Pen and ink on Rives BFK, digitally colored in photoshop.

Based on an article about a period within a household when a teenager's hormones rise rapidly during puberty the same time when a middle-aged mom's hormones rapidly decrease during menopause. This supposedly explains a lot of parent-teenage feuds.

"Brooklyn." Graphite on Rives BFK.

Based on a book review about a woman struggling to leave immigrant-embodied Brooklyn in the 1940's. Trying to start a new life, she is held back by her mother, her church, and a supposed suitor.
