AGE OF REPTILES CLOSES TONIGHT - March 18, 2011

The Age of Reptiles show (curated by Anthony Pedro) closes tonight. If you haven't been out to see it yet, please get there. A whole bunch of PCS members and Autumn Society members have some really decent work in the show paying tribute to what Dan Rather called "History's Greatest Generation" - the Dinosaurs!

Here is my contribution to the show:

What Exit?

Here is a design i created exclusively for therethere.com. What's therethere.com? Well glad you asked... They are an online t-shirt store that partners with artists from around the country to create designs based on different cities and states. Or as I have been describing it, "You'll 'get' these t-shirts if your from the city or state..." t-shirt site. For some shirts, 10% of sales will be earmarked for a specific nonprofit. For all "city" shirts, 10% of sales will go to an organization doing work in that specific city. That way, when you buy a shirt to represent your home, the benefits go right back to where you live.

Hopefully you guys can show a little brotherly love for one of your Garden State members...

I was the first to get a crack at the NJ which made me very excited. The idea behind the design was simple. When people think of NJ, they think of a big highway with a bunch of diners. So what better way to represent NJ by creating an awesome retro diner highway exit sign! It comes on a cool grey nifty t-shirt for your wearing pleasure.

Fellow PCS has also created designs for therethere.com and you can check them out by clicking here.

One Set of Horns

I was recently asked by Ape Entertainment to do the back up stories for their upcoming Kung Fu Panda 2 books. This is page 4 in that 8 page story.

See the coloring process for this page at my blog...

I'm finishing up the second and third back up story now. They will be showing up in the upcoming comics, to be released with the movie.

Greetings from the "Away Team"

Hey, PCSers! After taking something of an art-making sabbatical, I'm grinding off some rust and getting the old gears in synch. Since Jeff graciously invited me to post here, I figured I'd touch base. After all, you can take the kid out of Philly, but there's no taking Philly out of the kid.

I donated the above Captain America to the local bus drivers' annual "Military Cookout," which benefits servicemen and their families. The organizers have decided to auction it off, so here's hoping it does its job and finds an appreciative home.

Anyway ... I miss you guys, glad to see you're still active and really enjoy seeing your messages pop up in my Google reader. 'Til then, I'll consider myself part of the PCS Away Team. Peace.

PCS Mardi Gras 2011

Chris DeRose, Sam Heimer, James PointDuJour (a rowdy bunch)

Members of the Philadelphia Cartoonist Society bro'd down at Jeffro's apartment the Saturday before Fat Tuesday 2011 for a Pre-Mardi Gras celebration. It was the first time in a while that so many members got together in such a big group. There must have been over 25 people crammed into this tiny one-bedroom apartment at one point. It was also coincidentally James PointDuJour's birthday. Everyone seemed to have a great night, drank, listened to New Orleans music, ate some good food and talked trash on each other like the old days. Sadly, there wasn't enough room to pick up a pencil and draw.

PCS Members in attendance included: Chris "Patch" Patchell, Andrew Hart, Andy Hoffman, Kyle Margiotta, Christine Larsen, Dave Perillo, Scott Derby, Sam Heimer, James Heimer, Paul Palcko, Concetta Barbera, Tim Durning, Chris DeRose, Rich Marcej, Chris Webb, Melissa Lomax, James PointDuJour and several other friends, wives, and partners.

It is my hope that gatherings like this can re-invigorate the crew. The next time we get together like this, hopefully it will be at a place with big drawing tables. It's good to know that the PCS is alive and well (and not only banded through the internet).
